A. English Subject Objectives
We aim to make good use of learning time to enrich students’ learning experience and promote their whole-person development by:
1) creating more self-directed learning opportunities inside and outside the classroom;
2) encouraging student participation by using e-tools and hands-on activities in English lessons
3) enriching students’ learning experience by developing Reading across the Curriculum materials
4) increasing students’ confidence by participating in internal and external competitions
5) arousing students’ interest by organizing English learning activities
6) enhancing students’ English by organizing interesting and diversified English enrichment classes
B. English Panel Development
In order to arouse students’ interest towards English and makes teaching more effective, different teaching approaches and tools such as role plays, pair work, games, songs and poems are used in the lessons. Our school also make good use of e-learning in teaching and learning, such as iSolution, WordWall, Kahoot!, Padlet, Plickers and Canva in self-learning, in-class practice and extended learning.
We encourage students to read more books at school and at home. They can enjoy reading using the online library with provision of interesting fiction and non-fiction books. Moreover, with iSolution (e-book), students can enjoy some interactive and stimulating activities and the audio features also give parents support. Students from P1-6 are required to challenge themselves on Oxford Achiever for the improvement in listening, reading, grammar, writing, speaking and vocabulary.
We endeavour to engage students in active learning by organizing a variety of English learning activities. English Fun Days, World Book Day, Chinese Culture Week, a number of English enrichment classes (weekdays & weekends) and participation in a range of English events and competitions provide good opportunities for students to improve and develop their confidence, abilities and competency of English.
C. Strengths and Characteristics
Miss Kommal, Miss Rachel & Miss Lovejeet are our NET teachers. In KS1, our school is in the EDB NET Scheme’s PLP-R/W Programme which adopts a holistic approach to language learning with the balanced incorporation of the four basic skills especially in reading and writing. We have a comprehensive Phonics curriculum for P1-2 students. This ensures earlier development of Phonics skills for young learners to learn English better with pronunciation, word recognition and spelling. Moreover, our NETs provide a rich English learning environment for our students, e.g. cultivating reading habits by having shared reading sessions every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; arousing students’ interest by playing English games (2 times/week); providing speaking training (4 times/week).
